Experiment 1 Submission

Final SketchUp Model.

This is the final model I have developed in Google SketchUp for this submission. I have altered the spaces from last week slightly and completely redesigned the gallery space on the ground plane. This was to allow for a greater level of resolving in the form of interior details and creating movement and circulation paths through and joining the different spaces. I have used my stairs to create these circulation paths and have further developed my textures by editing them in Photoshop and importing them to my model in key spaces.

Because my file was too large to upload to the Google Warehouse, I have uploaded the file for download to file sharing site '2shared.com'. I tried to strip textures and return the model to its simplest form, however this did not reduce my model to the 10mb file limit. Please see the link below for access to this file:

Week 3.

Developed SketchUp Model.

This is my developed SketchUp Model based on my second draft model. I have furthered the ideas from last week but have created smoother, more detailed spaces using complex extrusions and manual editing. I have used Zaha Hadid as my inspiration in creating these spaces, and have used the montage of the 'vein' type detailing on the exterior walls for both artist's workshops. This is to tie the two workshops together in the hope of creating a more unified architecture.

YouTube Video Inspiration

The architecture by Zaha Hadid became the inspiration for my new SketchUp Model. I can relate to her drive to create architecture which 'flows' and seems to almost be 'in motion' through to use of curved spaces and vast white structures with high levels of glass.

Draft SketchUp Model Number 2.

This is the second model I have developed using a new Section Drawing from Week 1. The Model is based on the selected works by Stelarc and Ai Weiwei and I have tried to create spaces which reflect the artists works and their lives. The top space is intended for Stelarc's Workshop and reflects the outstretched arm which forms the basis for his 'Ear on Arm Performance'. The Bottom Space is intended to be for Ai Weiwei's 'Template' and is representative of the artist being an outcast of the arting world. Ai Weiwei is often looked upon as a sort of 'black sheep' and thus I have decided to literally bury his workspace under the ground and create an architecture which is in ways representative of a jail cell with its thick vertical columns and double glazed walls allowing visual but not physical interaction with the outside world.

SketchUp Model Screenshots.

I imagine the building to be constructed of precast concrete with large double glazed glass panels at the front and rear. The building has been inspired by the word 'bare' and therefore is a simplistic structure which is comprised of mostly straight and angular lines. There are no eccentric protrusions in the design aside from the 'stacked' column which provides an artistic feature at the rear. The idea is that high use of glass, as well as the 'tunnel' style structure allow the building to feel both open and enclosed, and encourage travel and flow within the structure; this is not a place for lingering, but rather a place of continual movement.
