Experiment 3: The Valley.

Styx Valley of the Giants, Tasmania, Australia.

The Styx Valley, or 'Valley of the Giants' is home to the tallest hardwood trees in the world. Located 70km west of Hobart, the vast Eucalyptus forests are comprised of some of the oldest trees on earth, with many of them being over 400 years old, spanning over 25 storeys high and having trunks up to 5m wide at the base. However, despite this, the rich and resilient nature of the valley's trees has seen between 300 and 600 hectares of the natural forest logged each year for timber production. At this rate, the forest will be completely destroyed within 3 generations.
